Marvin B.JPG

In Memory of Marvin Blickenstaff (1935-2026)

It is with profound sadness that we heard about the passing of the great music pedagogue
Marvin Blickenstaff. Many of our music teachers first met Marvin in 2013 at our national CFMTA
conference when it was held in Halifax, Nova Scotia. It was my great privilege as President of
CFMTA and NSRMTA to invite Marvin to be our Guest Speaker at our conference.
Marvin will be remembered for his service to the arts and greater community through his love of
teaching. His admonition “teach better and be better and to lead with love” was demonstrated in
all he did. He believed in not just shaping sound but also the lives of those he taught.
His quick wit, gentle humor and unforgettable laugh, kind and generous spirit, will be greatly

missed. Rest in peace dear teacher.
