The NSRMTA Student Composer Competition is an annual competition. Students can enter their original compositions on or before April 27th. Compositions will be judged, with eligible First-Place winners advancing to the CFMTA National Student Composer Competition.

Deadlines are near the end of April but vary from year to year.

Entrants must be students of teachers who are members of the Nova Scotia Registered Music Teachers’ Association.

Eligible students can enter their original compositions in various categories as per the chart and guidelines that follow.

Teachers, if you are interested in having your students compete in this competition, but are not yet a Registered Music Teacher in the province of Nova Scotia, please visit our Join us! page for full details on how to become a member. You can apply to become a member there by completing the online application form.

The Nova Scotia Student Composer Competition awards various prizes of ribbons for all entries, and certificates, and cash to the First Place winners of each class.
