The Nova Scotia Registered Music Teachers’
Association is a professional organization, affiliated with the
Canadian Federation of Music Teachers' Associations (CFMTA).
Qualified members carry the designation RMT (Registered Music
Teacher), an assurance to the public that the teachers have
met specified educational standards. Active Members hold degrees
or diplomas from universities, colleges, and/or music conservatories.
Teachers prepare many candidates for examinations, festivals
and competitions, but the principal aim is to educate musicians
and music lovers.
Objectives of the association
- To promote progressive ideas on the teaching of music
- To encourage definite preparation for the art of teaching
- To encourage the establishment of Music Credits in connection
with all school courses and the acknowledgement of music as part
of child and adult education
- The ultimate registration of all music teachers according to
recognized musical standards
- The encouragement among teachers of definite ethical standards
of professional conduct
- To stimulate by means of social activities a spirit of comradeship
among members of the profession
