Teacher Bursary Fund (initiated by Janet Leffek)

Before Janet Leffek retired and moved to B. C., she started a fund and regularly contributes to it.  The fund was intended to be used for teacher professional development.  Janet says in a recent communication, “When I first proposed this fund, this was my intention.  I feel that young teachers (under 40 years of age), burdened by family and other responsibilities, often do not have enough money to attend national conventions, workshops, or even provincial conventions, and it is those young teachers who will benefit most from taking part in these educational activities.  Those who have only provisional [now "affiliate"] membership may wish to upgrade their qualifications by taking university courses, or lessons with a senior teacher. I hoped to set up a fund which would help junior teachers in these situations, and to which others might contribute if they wished”.

The fund has been used and might be used more frequently if it were better known.  If it were better known it might also encourage other teachers to contribute to the fund.

To donate to the Teacher Bursary Fund, or to apply for a Bursary from the Fund, print off this form and mail it to the appropriate address.
